Prof. Eric Boakye-Gyasi of the Department of Pharmacology in the College of Health Sciences, KNUST has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.
Prof. Boakye-Gyasi, a recipient of the KNUST Vice Chancellor’s staff development scholarship programme in 2006 holds a B.Pharm (Hons) degree and a PhD (Pharmacology) from Kwame Nkrumah University and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. He is an old student of Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, Legon-Accra.
He has been a Registered Pharmacist since 2007 and an active member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana. He also holds membership with the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research, the West African Society for Pharmacology (WASP), and the West African Network of Natural Products Research Scientists (WANNPRES).
Prof. Boakye-Gyasi’s main research focus is on neuropharmacology of natural products – particularly in the areas of nociception and inflammopharmacology. He has over forty-three (43) peer-reviewed articles with 774 citations, h-index of 16, and i10 index of 28 according to google scholar (as of 06/10/2021).
Prof. Boakye-Gyasi was part of a team awarded USD 9,923.00 under the Building Stronger Universities Phase Two (BSUII) work Package Three (WP3) program to conduct a three-month pilot study on “SAFE WATER FOR GOOD HEALTH” in 2016. As the principal investigator for a team, he received a grant of GHC 30,000 from the KNUST Research Fund (KReF) in January 2019.
He has served the university and the community in a number of capacities including but not limited to being the College Representative for the University Strategic Plan Implementation Oversight Committee (2017-2020), the Vice Chairman of Academic, Social and Research Pharmacists’ Association of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana from 2016 to 2018 and an astute reviewer for a number of international journals.
Prof. Eric Boakye-Gyasi is currently the Associate Online Editor for the Journal of Science and Technology (JUST) as well as the Coordinator for Postgraduate studies and Seminars in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and a member of the KNUST Vaccine Development and Production Committee.
