M.Sc in Pharmaceutical Analysis and Quality Control
This is a (2) year course involving all sections of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry with mon Pharmaceutical analysis and Quality Control. It has little imput from the microbiological section of Pharmacy and the Computer Science Department of Physical Science, KNUST, Kumasi.

The course is unique in its concept of providing a post graduate course in laboratory practice and prepares the student:

  • For management of quality control laboratories
  • In the use of simple and sophisticated methods and equipment in pharmaceutical analysis.
  • In the design of methods of analysis for raw materials and drug dosage forms
  • The course is structured around two academic years (4 semesters) with the first year containing taught courses, seminars and laboratory practices. The second year is for project work and Thesis writing. Throughout the programme, a number of visits are arranged to Pharmaceutical organizations and the Laboratories of drug control bodies.

  • Use of Computer and Statistics in Analysis

Assessment

The courses will be assessed at the end of each semester in the first year by a written examination. In the Second year, a written project/dissertation will be considered according to the University's regulation on taught/Research M.Sc courses.

Admission requirements

A candidate should hold a good degree in Pharmacy, Chemistry or Biochemistry; Applicants may be interviewed before admission.
