Postgraduate Programmes

The department offers Masters' and Doctorate programmes in Pharmacognosy. The Masters' programme includes a Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm, Pharmacognosy option and a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil, Pharmacognosy option). The former is for candidates with a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree; all other candidates are awarded the M.Phil degree. The doctorate (PhD) is awarded without discrimination.

Admission Requirements
 Besides the general entry requirements, applicants with a bachelor'sdegree (normally in the First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) or a recognized qualification in Pharmacy, Biological Sciences, Botany, Chemistry, Biochemistry and related program areas will be considered for admission to the Master's programme.

Duration of Programme
The duration of the Master's programme is normally 2 years while that of the Doctorate is 3 years.

Programme Content/Requirements
The master's programme is generally offered in the broad areas Pharmacognosy: (i) Phytochemistry and (ii) Plant Anatomy or (iii) related areas like standardization of herbal medicines which involves both (i) and (ii) and also bioactivity related evaluation.
