The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (FPPS) has held an orientation for postgraduate students at the Faculty’s Conference room on the 9th of March, 2023 to provide them with an overview of the academic activities and other key skills required for their study in the various postgraduate programmes.
The event was graced by the Professor Michael Poku-Boansi, Deputy Director of the School of Graduate Studies (SGS-KNUST), Professor Samuel Asare-Nkansah, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and other senior faculty members highlighted a myriad of pertinent issues ranging from general graduate school regulations through to success in graduate school.
The deputy director of SGS-KNUST, Professor Poku-Boansi, in his remarks mentioned various bottlenecks when it came to students’ thesis submission and processing. He assured the students of an effective system that has been put in place to manage thesis submission which has been made simpler and more manageable.
Other senior members of FPPS took turns to enlighten the students on various topics geared towards a successful graduate school journey. The topics they presented include; Research Ethics and integrity, Time Management, Information on Postgraduate Examinations, and good presentation skills. The Vice Dean of FPPS, Professor Kwame Ohene Buabeng inaugurated the Graduate Students Coordinating Committee. The members include; Professor Eric Boakye-Gyasi (Chairperson), Dr. Yaw Duah Boakye (Secretary), Dr. Mrs. Abena Brobbey (Pharmaceutical Chemistry), Dr. Mrs. El Mariam Boakye-Gyasi (Pharmaceutics), Dr. Aaron Opoku (Pharmacology), Dr. Mrs. Afia Marfo (Pharmacy Practice), Dr. Mrs. Evelyn Asante-Kwatia (Pharmacognosy), Mr. Michael Baah (Herbal Medicine) and Mr. Desmond Asamoah Bruce Otu (Graduate students’ representative).
Professor Ohene Buabeng assured the Postgraduate Students of the concerted effort to provide the requisite skills and training needed in our studies to help gain competency and independency in conducting research. The ceremony ended with a tour of the KNUST Central Laboratory for students to familiarize themselves with the various analysis and tests being run to ensure smooth training and teaching.
