CHS in collaboration with NHIA holds a workshop for clinical students of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

College of Health Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has organised an insightful workshop for the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences students getting into their clinical years to prepare them for the industry.

The event which was organised at the Pharmacy Lecture Room 1 on the 31st October 2023 drew top figures from the National Health Insurance Authority, including Mr. Francis Oti Frempong the Acting Director-Membership and Regional Operations (MRO), Dr. Mrs. Ruby Ailee Mensah Annan the Acting Director-strategic Health Purchasing and Dr. Yaw Opoku the Deputy Director-Data Analytics.

The Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. Christian Agyare and the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof. Samuel Asare Nkansah in their address emphasized on students' lives post-graduation hence such workshops are important in equipping students with the requisite knowledge as they are becoming practicing pharmacists and also bridge the gap between industry and academia. They also highlighted the crucial role played by the NHIA in healthcare delivery.

Dr Ruby Ailee Mensah Annan, the keynote speaker provided valuable insights into healthcare financing, with a particular focus on the National Health Insurance Authority. She highlighted the ability of the system to generate funds thus; by mobilising resources, mechanisms to allocate money towards the purchase of resources and ways of financing so that the patients do not become poor after receiving health care.

The session was also marked by an engaging and informative dialogue, allowing students to gain knowledge from the professionals present. Various topics related to financing healthcare and insurance were also discussed.
