The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (FPPS) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) hosted an orientation event for its fresh students on the 11th of January, 2024 at the Lecture Hall 1. The session covered important aspects of student life, focusing on safety, support services, and student expectations.

The orientation began with a friendly welcome from the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof Samuel Asare-Nkansah who stressed the importance of creating a supportive community within the Faculty. Campus security measures were explained to ensure students' well-being during their time at KNUST.

Counselling services were highlighted by the College of Health Sciences Counsellor, Mrs Joana Joseline Hackman. She provided insights into potential challenges students might face. Mrs. Hackman emphasized the faculty's commitment to supporting students not only academically but also in their personal development and well-being.

A notable part of the orientation was a discussion on how to present yourself and behave at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences as a student. This lecture was given by Dr. Mrs Afia Asare Frimpomaa Marfo. The significance of professional attire was explained, connecting it to the standards of the profession and how it represents the field in the community. Practical tips were shared to help students maintain a polished and respectful appearance.

Academic expectations and examination were also outlined during the orientation, offering guidance for success in studies, and highlighting the available resources, including libraries, laboratories, and collaborative study spaces. Prof. Wonder Abotsi, the Faculty Exams Officer concluded this session with a breakdown of the grading system in KNUST.

The orientation at the KNUST Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences aimed to not only prepare students for academic success but also to foster a sense of community and responsibility. As these new students begin their academic journey, the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is committed to supporting them with the knowledge and all needed resources to thrive in the field of Pharmacy.
