FPPS holds the maiden Preceptor Development Conference

 

The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has organised a three-day Preceptor Development Conference for representatives of affiliated External Teaching sites for experiential training to be equipped with new skills and methods on Preceptorship to improve the training of Pharmacy students.

The Preceptor Development Conference spanned from the 17th to the 19th of January 2024 and was facilitated by Professor Ruth Dapaah–Afriyie, a well-experienced and decorated in the pharmacy field. Professor Ruth Dapaah – Afriyie throughout the three days, presented in the tool the Preceptors through the transition of students to clinical practice, curriculum, and learning Experience Development, Dealing with Challenging situations, Communication, Preceptor Roles and other interesting topics.

Speaking at the conference, Professor Christian Agyare the Provost of the College of Health Sciences appreciated the External Teaching Sites' efforts in training the College's students, indicating hands-on training of students is vital in building health professionals. Professor Agyare also applauded the leadership of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences for organising such a training programme for Preceptors and urged them to make this initiative an annual event to keep building the competencies of the affiliated institutions.

The Preceptor Development Conference gathered over One hundred and fifty (150) people who participated in person at the College of Health Sciences Board Room and also online.  Some participants speaking at the conference indicated that it was an insightful experience partaking in the event. They also affirmed that the knowledge gathered will boost their output as preceptors.
