FPPS organises orientation for freshmen

 

The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (FPPS) at KNUST officially welcomed over 400 newly admitted students for the 2024/2025 academic year with a comprehensive orientation session on January 17, 2025. The event introduced students to the academic and professional standards expected of them and provided practical strategies for success.

In his opening address, the Dean, Professor Samuel Asare Nkansah emphasized the privilege of being selected from over 4,000 applicants and urged students to justify their inclusion by excelling academically. He reminded them of the faculty’s commitment to high standards, stressing the importance of focus, discipline, and active engagement during lectures. “If it is to be, it is up to me,” he said, inspiring students to take responsibility for their achievements.

The programme featured sessions on effective time management, avoiding digital distractions, and adopting various study techniques for better learning outcomes. Students were encouraged to use tools like Google Calendar and the Pomodoro Technique to plan their study time effectively. Additionally, they were introduced to university policies, grading systems, and support services designed to aid their academic and personal growth.

The importance of professionalism was highlighted, with students being advised to dress appropriately, show respect to all individuals, and maintain positive attitudes. They were reminded that ethical behavior is central to their development as future healthcare professionals.

The event also included advice from student leaders, who urged freshmen to embrace opportunities and adopt a mindset of continuous growth. By the end, students left inspired and equipped to navigate life at KNUST successfully.
