KNUST Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (FPPS) celebrates a significant milestone as our alumnus, Kwame Adjei, Ph.D., heads to Johnson & Johnson for a prestigious postdoctoral fellowship.
He is also a 2025 doctoral graduate from the Economic, Social, and Administrative Pharmacy (ESAP) Division, at Florida A&M University’s College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health (CoPPS, IPH).
Kwame Adjei, a PharmD graduate of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, began his doctoral studies remotely in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic before transitioning to in-person research in Tallahassee in 2021. Over the past four years, his work has centered on health economics and policy, most notably a dissertation evaluating the cost-effectiveness and Real Option Value (ROV) of treatments for advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC). His findings underscored the importance of incorporating dynamic value assessment frameworks in oncology decision-making.
Throughout his Ph.D., Adjei distinguished himself through leadership in The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research’s student network, internships at healthcare organizations EMD Serono and global, research-based biopharmaceutical company AbbVie, and collaborations with clinicians and data scientists on publications in high-impact journals. His work spans topics such as mental health, antidepressant use, and glaucoma treatment.
Now, as he prepares to join Johnson & Johnson—a global leader in healthcare innovation—Adjei’s transition represents not just a personal achievement but also a proud moment for KNUST Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (FPPS). His appointment to this fellowship marks a strong endorsement of the program’s commitment to global impact, policy-relevant research, and training the next generation of pharmaceutical leaders.
Adjei’s move to Johnson & Johnson is a proud achievement for Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a strong indication of what can be accomplished through focused, globally oriented scholarship.
