Autobiography

Joseph Adu obtained his B.Pharm (Hons) degree at the Faculty of Pharmacy (KNUST, Kumasi) and obtained his post graduate MSc (Pharm Analysis) and PhD (Pharm Science) from the Strathclyde University in Glasgow, United Kingdom. He is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Health Science at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana. Dr Adu is a registered Pharmacist and a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana.

 Experience and Research Areas/Interests

His research interest majors in Pharmaceutical formulation, method development and Analysis. He has a background of working in a drug manufacturing industry with a wealth of experience in formulation under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). He has also acquired academic experience as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Strathclyde University, UK. Dr Adu has worked for many years in an overseas Contract Research Organisation and has extensive knowledge and experience in the development, validation and application of chromatographic (HPLC), spectroscopic (MS and UV), electrophoretic (CE/CEC) and hyphenated techniques (CE-MS,CEC-MS and LC-MS) in the analysis of pharmaceutical compounds and formulations. He has working knowledge of GLP, GCP and quality standards.

Dr Adu currently embarks on projects that seeks to identify, isolate and quantify compounds of pharmaceutical interest as well as those which pose potential health hazards in pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical products. Other areas of interest include investigating the quality of medicines on the Ghanaian market.

Committee Membership

Dr Adu is a Faculty Welfare Officer, a member of the Faculty Procurement Committee, a member of the Faculty Graduate Students Week Planning Committee and the Department Safety Officer.
